Bonnie Rae Koolen

Bonnie Rae Koolen, from Mesa, Arizona, went to her heavenly home on January 11, 2025. Bonnie was born on August 11, 1947 to Versil and Joyce Larsen in Amble, Michigan. She graduated in 1965 from Lakeview High School.  

Bonnie married Peter (Don) Koolen in 1968 and have been married for 56 years. She is survived by two children, Ryan (Jason Russell) Koolen of Okemos, Michigan and Kristin (Stuart) VandenBerg of Grand Rapids, Michigan. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, Reed (McKenzie) VandenBerg of Hortonville, Wisconsin, Raelee (Nathan) Gibas of Hastings, Michigan, and Rylynn (Jacob) Niemchick of Martin, Michigan. Bonnie is also survived by her siblings Vianne (Peter) Priniski of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Janise (Steven) Aubry of Ludington, Michigan, and Nicholas (Deb) Larsen of Temecula, California, as well as many nieces and nephews. 

 For forty years, Bonnie held several different positions while working in the medical field and was always very active in her church communities. Upon retirement Bonnie and Don spent most of their time in Mesa, Arizona but also spent time traveling to Europe, Hawaii, and participated in countless motorcycle trips within the continental United States. During Bonnie's free time, if she wasn't knitting, crocheting, or collecting, she was playing card games with friends and family.

 In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to MD Anderson Cancer Center. A celebration of life will be held at Mesa Spirit in Arizona as well as one this spring in Michigan for friends and family.
