Domingo Bonilla, Jr., age 77, passed away on October 16, 2025, in Chandler, Arizona. Born on September 23, 1948, in Fabens, Texas, Domingo lived a life defined by service—to his country, his community, and most of all, his family.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Domingo served from 1968 to 1971 during the Vietnam War. His bravery and heroism were recognized with both the Bronze Star and Silver Star for his actions during the Battle of Hamburger Hill. His military service was not just a chapter in his life—it became a lifelong commitment. For over three decades following his time in uniform, Domingo remained a fierce advocate for veterans' rights and benefits. He held numerous leadership roles within the American Legion, including Post Commander, District 12 Commander, Area B Vice Commander, and ultimately Department Commander for the State of Arizona. Through these roles, he worked tirelessly to support fellow veterans and ensure their sacrifices were honored.
Professionally, Domingo was an auto mechanic throughout his life—a trade that reflected both his skill with his hands and his dedication to hard work. Whether under the hood of a car or building something in his workshop at home, he approached every task with precision and pride.
Outside of work and service commitments, Domingo found joy in simple pleasures. He loved carpentry and baking—crafting both woodwork and sweet treats with equal care. Fishing trips and camping adventures were among his favorite pastimes, especially when shared with family. His sense of humor was legendary; quick-witted and sharp-tongued in the best way, he could light up any room with laughter. He had an uncanny ability to make friends wherever he went—his warmth and generosity left lasting impressions on all who met him.
Domingo's greatest devotion was to his family. He is survived by Yolanda, his beloved wife of 57 years; their three children: Eric; Brian and daughter-in-law Sandra; Audra and son-in-law Heath; grandchildren Eric Jr., Jazmin (Rey), Michaela (Cameron); great-grandchildren Jazmin Jr. and Malik; as well as step-grandchildren Nox, Sam, and Rosalyn. His love for them was unwavering—he was a constant source of strength, support, and affection.
He is preceded in death by his father Domingo Sr., mother Maria Weber, and brother Mike.
Domingo Bonilla Jr.'s legacy is one of courage, compassion, loyalty, and laughter. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who carry forward the values he lived by each day.
