Eric Yates

After a life of service and devotion to community, Eric Wayne Yates passed away at the age of 58 in his hometown of Mesa, Arizona of complications due to cancer on February 26, 2023.  He was predeceased by his father, Samuel Yates and is survived by his wife of 37 years, Genevieve (Genny), his mother MaryAnn, 6 brothers and sisters and their families, his daughter Samantha, son-in-law Chris, son Adam, daughter-in-law Melissa, grandchildren Colby and Sadie, his family by marriage, the Geiger clan and many friends, both lifelong and new.

As a child Eric professed his intent to join the military like his father.  He lived his dream for 26 years, first as an airman and then as an officer, completing his college degree at the University of Arizona.

Eric met the love of his life, Genny, as a teenager in the Civil Air Patrol.  An avid learner, both through literature and experience, Eric sought new information and truths throughout his life and service.  Despite his professed desire  to spend his retired years "mowing the back 40" while listening to the  news, he continued to devote  himself to service and charity after leaving the military.  In his retirement , Eric supported his community and brothers in arms volunteering with the VFW and helping fellow veterans.  In recent years, Eric returned to learning, seeking an associate degree in Criminal Justice, and planned to apply his knowledge and experience in that new direction.

Eric will be honored with a visitation for friends and family at the Family Burial and Cremation Center, 237 South Sirrine, Ste. 101, Mesa, Az 85210 on Sunday March 5 from 4 to 6 pm.  His funeral will be held on Monday March 6 at 11 am at Christ The King Catholic Church, 1551 E. Dana Ave, Mesa, Az 85205
