Freddie Allen Luke was born on September 24, 1931 at Mulberry, a small coal mining town in southeast Kansas. His family endured the great depression by living off the land. They had a large garden and canned much. They had one milk cow and chickens. They hunted wild rabbits and squirrels and fished local streams. They used coal for heating and cooking.
He served in the US Air Force for over 20 years attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He served as a fighter pilot and in command and staff positions. He was awarded the bronze star for service in Vietnam.
He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He served the Lord as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including over 16 years as a temple ordinance worker.
He is survived by his wife Orpha, sons: Ted (Patti Jo) Luke, David (Lee-Ann) Luke, John (Jennifer) Luke. Robert (Jeana) Reed, Steven (Emily) Reed, and Douglas (Bethany) Reed, and daughter Linda Quaranta. His son Steven Luke (Amy) preceded him in death.
Fred honored God, Country and Family throughout his life. He passed away in the early morning hours of February 28, 2025 surrounded by his loving wife of 18 years and family.
Funeral Services will be held at the LDS Building, Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 230 North Val Vista Dr. Gilbert, AZ. A viewing will start at 10:00 am with services at 11:00 am.
Internment will be at the Mesa City Cemetery, 1212 North Center Street, Mesa, AZ.
